Mickey's House and Meet Mickey Fandom

The attraction was soon renovated and renamed during the land's refurbishment into Mickey's Toontown Fair, and opened under it's then-new name on June 29, 1996. The house by then would lead into the Judge's Tent, where guests could meet Mickey Mouse himself, and sometimes with Minnie Mouse as well. Mickey’s Toontown has reopened at Disneyland Park, reimagined and renovated into a more dynamic, inclusive, and accessible land. Apart from the addition of new attractions and experiences, preexisting components of the space have reopened to fans eagerly waiting to return during the extended closure. While in the neighborhood, we recently had the opportunity to enter the residence of Minnie Mouse for a charming visit.

This version also includes a Movie Barn, which is the location of Mickey's Meet and Greet. Mickey's Country House had been in the land since opening as Mickey's Birthdayland on June 18, 1988. The attraction was initially called Mickey's House, and stayed the same after the rebranding of the land to Mickey's Starland on May 26, 1990. The Fantasyland expansion project was a major renovation of the Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland section in Disney World that took place from 2010 to 2014. It included the addition of new attractions, such as the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Enchanted Tales with Belle, and the expansion of existing ones, like Dumbo the Flying Elephant. A fireplace greets visitors, directly beside a caricatured vintage radio that’s probably seen its fair share of fireside chats.

Do I need a special ticket to visit Mickey’s House at Disneyland Resort and Tokyo Disneyland?

Unlike Minnie’s ornate flower beds and shrubs, Mickey keeps it simple with a flower box on the upstairs window and a few plants by the front steps. I think the streamlined design of his yard helps draw your eye straight to the front door, where Mickey himself is often waiting to greet his friends. These are softened hues of Mickey’s character colors – grey instead of black, gold instead of yellow, and a reddish orange instead of his fire-engine red shorts. It could be as simple as green made a nice contrast for the trim…but I see another connection. Mickey’s House is basically an elaborate indoor air conditioned queue in order to meet Mickey.

Behind the Building: Mickey’s House

Get a behind-the-scenes glimpse of how the one and only Mickey Mouse lives during a walk-through tour of his house. Stroll through Mickey’s living room, den, laundry room and backyard, and come across keepsakes from Mickey’s everyday life and illustrious career. Take a self-guided tour of the original house of mouse and then meet, greet and snap a photo with Mickey himself. Cynics say the entire house is just a dressed-up queue to distract you from the sometimes long wait to meet the world's most famous mouse, but that's just fine with me. Mickey is often at home, greeting guests, but you can find him in other places, too.

As you leave his house and head into his garden (all is still indoors), you’ll find a sign letting you know who’s waiting for you up ahead. Wheelchairs should go up the ramp on the right side of the house. Mickey’s House and Mickey’s Toontown Fair were both removed in the Fantasyland expansion project.

What Time Do the Gondolas Start at Disney World?

The radio still plays the W.A.C.K.Y. Radio Toontown loop which has been here since 1993, including references to the former Jolly Trolley. Another reason the house stands out is the architecture itself. There are few straight lines inside or outside, from curved rooflines to slanted kitchen cabinets. The whimsical styling throughout Toontown makes you feel like you’re not quite in a “real” place, as if you have stepped into a cartoon instead.

After touring his house, guests pass through a fake garden to enter Mickey’s Movie Barn. The barn is filled with props and costumes from many Mickey Mouse shorts. Guests wanting to meet Mickey wait in the screening room before being called by a cast member.

Mickey’s House, originally located in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom as part of Mickey’s Toontown Fair, was removed during the Fantasyland expansion project in 2011. While it no longer exists in Disney World, you can still visit Mickey’s House at Disneyland Resort in Southern California and Tokyo Disneyland. These locations offer a walk-through tour of Mickey’s home and a chance to meet the character. Meeting Mickey and touring his house are best done during the first 2 hours that Toontown is open or, alternatively, in the evening during Fantasmic! Some children are so obsessed with seeing Mickey that they cannot enjoy anything else until they get Mickey in the rearview mirror.

How To Get to the Boardwalk Resort at Walt Disney World

For the latest Disney Parks news and info, follow WDW News Today on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. It seems nothing has really changed inside Minnie’s House, and that’s all for the best considering how cute of a short walkthrough experience it has been for the past 30 years. One can imagine the peace a mouse might find laying here with a book and the soothing sound of the rain’s pitter-patter against the window. The host has a personalized portrait on her mailbox greeting passersby from the front yard as they enter. Watch a full video of Minnie’s house tour directly below, and keep scrolling for more photos from inside.

On this very hot day, the wait for meeting Mickey was a whopping 60 minutes. However, we were happy that we got to wait in the cool, and my daughter was happy to explore Mickey’s House while we waited. Today we’re heading over to Mickey’s Toontown in Disneyland Park to visit the home of the main mouse himself, Mickey Mouse! Mickey’s House sits nestled in the residential area of Toontown. If you'd rather walk than ride, you'll find a lot of things to do in Disneyland.

In fact, you can explore ten walk -through attractions and see parts of Disneyland that many other visitors miss. With availability at great rates, don't miss out on the opportunity to experience the magic of Disney. Another similar attraction, entitled "Meet Mickey" is located in the Gardens of Imagination at Shanghai Disneyland, and opened with the park. The version of Mickey's House at Tokyo Disneyland's Toontown was also an opening day attraction.

And since Mickey is a cartoon star, you never know when you might need an anvil. Based on actual images seen in the cartoons and comics, Mickey’s House is just the kind of warm place you’d expect everybody’s favorite mouse to live. Find a treasure trove of Mickey mementos inside the humble home of the most “famouse” star around. The Movie Barn gets its name in part from the so-called barn studio where Walt Disney created some of the earliest Mickey Mouse cartoons.

It’s included with general admission to Disneyland Resort and Tokyo Disneyland. However, make sure to check the park’s official website for any changes or updates before your visit. Mickey’s home manages to capture the spirit of Toontown’s design while still standing out as an important building. But one detail I love that most people don’t notice – how nestled it is into the hills behind the street. It’s almost as if the house is part of the landscape, completed ingrained into Toontown itself. Mickey’s house sits behind a small lawn with a white picket fence.

This is where you’ll see a continuous loop of trailers for his big film successes. (Goofy is the projectionist and Donald likes to check up on him, so expect some mischief.)  Soon, a Cast Member will usher you into a smaller waiting area. Here, you can see film canisters stuffed with Mickey’s biggest hits.

You can walk through his living room, den, laundry room and back yard and greet him in his dressing room in the Movie Barn. A six-part docuseries charts the rise of Walt Disney and his entertainment empire following the creation of Mickey Mouse. After Sunday’s finale of the Masterpiece drama Mr Bates vs the Post Office, meet the real-life underdogs. Masterpiece launches the third and final season of the darkly comic caper Guilt. Saturday Night Live’s Colin Jost brings his barbed humor to the White House Correspondents Dinner in Washington, D.C.
